Addiction Technology Transfer Centers
The Addiction Technology Transfer Centers (ATTC) is a nationwide, multi-disciplinary resource that draws upon the knowledge, experience and latest work of recognized experts in the field of addictions. The network is comprised of 13 independent Regional Centers and a National Office. Alcoholics Anonymous
Founded in 1935, this fellowship has assisted more than two million people with alcohol problems. The official AA site provides information on the organization, publications and a directory of offices and services
Al-Anon/Alateen
Offers help and support for the families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of a relative or friend. Similarly, Alateen is a recovery program for young people. Alateen groups are sponsored by Al-anon members. The program of recovery is adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous and is based upon the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and Twelve Concepts of Service.
Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute
The University of Washington established the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute in October of 1973 as an interdisciplinary research center. ADAI’s mission has been to conduct and support research and disseminate research findings in substance abuse. This center’s web site has a selection of web links, including research centers, journals, and related organizations.
American Council for Drug Education
The American Council for Drug Education is a substance abuse prevention and education agency that develops programs and materials based on the most current scientific research on drug use and its impact on society. Develops and disseminates drug education materials to individuals, professionals, and organizations regarding drug use and abuse. This organization is especially geared toward helping children, adolescents, and their families.
American Medical Association
The American Medical Association’s (AMA) work includes the development and promotion of standards in medical practice, research, and education; strong advocacy agenda on behalf of patients and physicians; and the commitment to providing timely information on matters important to the health of America.
American Society of Addiction Medicine
The nation's medical society dedicated to educating physicians and improving the treatment of individuals suffering from alcoholism or other addictions. This site includes information on patient placement criteria, pain management, practice guidelines, public policy and publications.
Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse (AMERSA)

Brandeis University's Heller School - The Schneider Institute for Health Policy
The Schneider Institute for Health policy at Brandeis University’s Heller School has achieved national recognition as a leading health care policy and research institution. The institute comprises three major divisions - Health Services Research, Policy Development and Implementation, and Technology and Organizational Change - which investigate a range of health care concerns: finance and reimbursement, state and local policies, vulnerable populations, diversity and long-term care for elders, substance abuse, and program evaluation.

Bureau of Drug & Alcohol Programs
The Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs was established by the Pennsylvania Drug and Alcohol Abuse Control Act and is charged with developing and implementing a comprehensive health, education, and rehabilitation program for the prevention, intervention, treatment and case management of drug and alcohol abuse and dependence. This program is implemented through grant agreements with the 49 Single County Authorities (SCAs) who, in turn, contract with private service providers. BDAP provides for central planning, management, and monitoring; the SCAs provide administrative oversight to the local contracted programs. Programs are funded with state and Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant funds.

Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse
The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) is a national agency, established in 1988 by an Act of Parliament, that supports and assists organizations involved in substance abuse treatment, prevention and education programming; disseminates information on the nature, extent and consequences of substance abuse; and promotes informed debate on substance abuse issues. The Center for Substance Abuse Research (CESAR), at the University of Maryland at College Park, is dedicated to addressing the problems substance abuse creates for individuals, families and communities. Healthy Nations Initiative: Reducing Substance Abuse Among Native Americans
The goal of the Healthy Nations Initiative is to demonstrate that tribes and communities can, over time, achieve substantial reductions in the demand for-and consequently the use of-alcohol and other harmful substances, including tobacco and illegal drugs. National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information
The National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug information (NCADI) is the information service of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. NCADI is the world’s largest resource for current information and materials concerning substance abuse prevention and treatment. Staffed with both English- and Spanish-speaking information specialists who are skilled at recommending appropriate publications, posters, and videocassettes; conducting customized searches; providing grant and funding information; and referring people to appropriate organizations. Also included at this site are the (NSAWI) National Substance Abuse Web Index and PREVline. PREVline provides access to CSAT, CSAP, and other government publications on substance abuse.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the principal biomedical and behavioral research agency of the U.S. Government. This charge has two critical components: The first is the strategic support and conduct of research across a broad range of disciplines. The National Library of Medicine (NLM), on the campus of the National Institutes of Health is Bethesda, Maryland, is the world’s largest medical library. Narcotic, Alcohol, Inhalant & Violence Education (NAÏVE)
The Middletown Township Police Department is proud to present a new program entitled NAÏVE. NAÏVE is an acronym for Narcotic, Alcohol, Inhalant & Violence Education. The program is an educational approach to drug prevention for families, parents, teachers, and adolescents. NAÏVE was created through a community-based committee made up of bereaved relatives, concerned citizens, educators, health professionals and members of law enforcement. This committee began creating the program in January 2002 and has spent months preparing the presentation. The goal of NAÏVE is to educate the community in the hopes of reducing the amount of deaths associated with drugs, alcohol and violence in our area.

Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP)
The principle purpose of ONDCP is to establish policies, priorities, and objectives for the Nation’s drug control program, the goals of which are to reduce illicit drug use, manufacturing, and trafficking, drug related crime and violence, and drug related health consequences. Their site contains information on their media campaign, State and local drug indicator profiles and links to drug-related offices, drug-related data, publications, prevention, education and treatment information and their FY 2001-2007 Strategic Plan.
Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion National Health Information Center
The National Health Information Center (NHIC) is a health information referral service. NHIC puts health professionals and consumers who have health questions in touch with those organizations that are best able to provide answers. NHIC was established in 1979 by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP), Office of Public health and Science, Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Pennsylvania Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs BDAP
The intention of the Commonwealth to provide for the prevention, intervention and treatment of alcohol and other drug abuse was established by the Pennsylvania Drug and Alcohol Abuse Control Act of 1972. The Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs, within the Department of Health provides services to the residents of the Commonwealth by contracting local government units in each county or groups of counties. The local governmental bodies, called Single County Authorities, plan and implement community based services in accordance with the Bureau of Drug and Alcohol's decentralized planning and treatment philosophy. The Bureau of Drug and Alcohol approves these plans and formulates a statewide program. Most SCA's contract with independent providers for treatment, prevention and intervention services while several administer their own direct services.

Pennsylvania Recovery Organizations Alliance, Inc. is a grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of all persons who are affected by alcohol and other drug addictions. PRO-A members are persons in recovery, family members and other community supporters.
Pennsylvania Certification Board
The Pennsylvania Certification Board is a private, non-profit corporation which offers voluntary state-level credentialing to the substance abuse and other behavioral health professional. The Board, comprised of certified professionals throughout the state, implements standards and testing for certification of addiction counselors, prevention specialists, clinical supervisors, case and care managers, criminal justice addictions professionals and auxiliary professionals.

The Friends Connection
The Friends Connection, a program of the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania, is a mobile psychiatric rehabilitation program that provides one-to-one peer support counseling and "clean and sober" recreation and leisure-time activities for individuals with co-occurring disorders (mental illness and substance abuse). The field of addiction treatment is dynamic and ever-changing. New behavioral and pharmacological approaches routinely alter the way we think about and address the treatment of those with substance use disorders. This program will examine recent scientific and methodological advances in addiction treatment and explore how they have improved and diversified addiction treatment services.

World Health Organization, Programme on Substance Abuse
PSA was established in 1990 to minimize the health problems associated with the use of drugs and alcohol. In 1994, the Tobacco or Health Programme was incorporated into PSA. PSA is responsible for setting technical and policy norms with regard to the prevention, management and reduction of health and social effects of substance abuse.
