RESEARCH TO PRACTICE BRIEFS

The PA PIC has published the first of a series of Research To Practice Briefs. The purpose of the Research to Practice Briefs is to provide addiction treatment professionals with the latest scientific information on a select topic in a way that will foster their desire to learn more about the topic and their application of the information in treating patients.

BRIEF NO. 1 – TWELVE-STEP FACILITATION IS DIVIDED INTO (3) PARTS.
  1. A brief description of how to conduct motivation interviewing in facilitating a patient’s progress towards a treatment goal, and an introduction of a specific method of applying this technique (the FRAME method).

  2. A brief description of how to apply motivational interviewing within the FRAME method (Feedback, Responsibility, Advice, Menu, Empathy, and Self-efficacy) for facilitating a patient’s access to twelve-step programming.

  3. A brief summary of the research regarding why participation in twelve-step programming might improve some patient outcomes.

The Research Briefs offer an opportunity to interested professionals to receive continuing education credit issued by the National Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC).
